چکیده
ABSTRACT Low oxygen or hermetic storage has been successfully used to store several commodities such as corn (Zea mays L.), cowpea (Vigna Savi), cocoa (Theobroma cocao), coffee (Coffea and rice (Oryza sativa L.). However, previous research using for peanut groundnut (Arachis hypogaea L.) had mixed results. Research was conducted determine the effect on aflatoxin contamination, seed germination, oil chemistry of shelled hermetically stored in Purdue Improved Crop Storage (PICS) bags up 12 months. A 2 × 4 factorial study included 1) normal high oleic peanut, 2) two initial moisture contents by four treatments. The treatments were burlap control, PICS bags, 3) with air extracted vacuum, 4) sachets chlorine dioxide (ClO2) dry fumigant added. There three replications each treatment combination. Peanut an area maintained at a temperature above 21C. germination peanuts 77 80%, respectively. Initial concentration all less than ?g/kg. Bags opened, sampled, resealed 60, 159, 249, 301 d storage. Approximately half suffered significant rodent damage, infestation Indian meal moth (Plodia interpunctella). Only damage limited outer polypropylene bag. no live insects bags. Seed decreased samples average 6.3%. 19.2% compared 2.1% one 75 ?g/kg, remaining below detectable limit

Storage of Maize in Purdue Improved Crop Storage (PICS) Bags
Interest in using hermetic technologies as a pest management solution for stored grain has risen in recent years. One hermetic approach, Purdue Improved Crop Storage (PICS) bags, has proven successful in controlling the postharvest pests of cowpea. This success encouraged farmers to use of PICS bags for storing other crops including maize. To assess whether maize can be safely stored in PICS ba...
متن کاملImpact of storage environment on the efficacy of hermetic storage bags
Small hermetic bags (50 and 100 kg capacities) used by smallholder farmers in several African countries have proven to be a low-cost solution for preventing storage losses due to insects. The complexity of postharvest practices and the need for ideal drying conditions, especially in the Sub-Sahara, has led to questions about the efficacy of the hermetic bags for controlling spoilage by fungi an...
متن کاملOptimal Storage by Crop Producers
When post-harvest marketing strategies are restricted by disallowing speculative purchases, sales out of storage becomes an irreversible decision and the dynamic marketing problem becomes analogous to the optimal exercise of a nancial option. The optimal marketing strategy is to hold at low prices and to sell at high prices with a cutoo price function marking the boundary between low and high p...

The corneas of New Zealand albino rabbits were isolated with a sclero-corneal rim for storage in a modified tissue culture medium (M-K medium) at 4° C. The corneas were either mounted in the specular microscope for daily observation of the endothelial layer and comeal thickness while being bathed in the storage medium at 4° C, or sealed in vials with the storage media. The vials were stored at ...
متن کاملPICS bags safely store unshelled and shelled groundnuts in Niger
We conducted an experiment in Niger to evaluate the performance of hermetic triple layer (Purdue Improved Crop Storage- PICS) bags for the preservation of shelled and unshelled groundnut Arachis hypogaea L. Naturally-infested groundnut was stored in PICS bags and woven bags for 6.7 months. After storage, the average oxygen level in the PICS bags fell from 21% to 18% (v/v) and 21%-15% (v/v) for ...
